Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital is seeking a board certified or residency trained Medical Oncologist to join our established 24 hour emergency and specialty hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With more than 30 years of service to the West Michigan community, our hospital has built a strong reputation for emergency, critical, and specialty care.
At Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital, you'll do more than practice. You'll grow, collaborate, and help shape what's possible in veterinary medicine. You'll have the opportunity to build and grow an Oncology service while working alongside experienced clinicians and highly trained technicians in a hospital committed to clinical excellence, compassionate care, and sustainable caseloads.
Our Grand Rapids team works closely with referring veterinarians and clients to provide exceptional medicine and continuity of care. You'll also have access to a broader network of specialists at our Byron Center location, just 15 minutes away, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Critical Care, and Ophthalmology. This close collaboration supports comprehensive case management and enhanced patient care.

In your day to day, you will:
• Manage oncology cases in collaboration with internal medicine, surgery, critical care, and other specialty services.
• Develop and grow the hospital's Oncology service based on your clinical interests and professional goals.
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and provide thoughtful, individualized treatment plans for patients.
• Support daily client communication, including treatment updates, medication and refill questions, and ongoing case coordination.
• Collaborate with referring veterinarians to provide continuity of care and maintain strong referral relationships.
• Mentor chemo-trained technicians, assistants, and support staff.
• Pursue growth opportunities such as ultrasound training, ECT training, or clinical trial coordination.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic capabilities including ultrasound, radiographs, CT, in house laboratory services, and blood banking.
• Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
• Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, communication, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Michigan.
• Board Certification in Medical Oncology through ACVIM or residency training in Medical Oncology.
• Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client centered approach.
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
• A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, and advancing specialty medicine.
• An interest in building and growing an Oncology service within an established emergency and specialty hospital.
• A commitment to working collaboratively with specialty teams, emergency clinicians, technicians, referring veterinarians, and pet owners.
